Statement

My work revolves around the intersection of stereotypes; some of which are grit and femininity, religion and sex, the male gaze and traditional art historical notions of beauty.  I am interested in the psychological discomfort art has the capacity to induce. For me, the practice of making art is almost always an exercise in seeing the many complicated layers of the sublime in society and our own subconscious. 

Biography

A native of the Arkansas delta, Heady Dwyer majored in Art Theory and Criticism at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a double minor in Interior Architecture and Painting. After receiving her degree in 2006 she remained in Chicago for a short time managing a contemporary gallery space in the River North area. Before attending graduate school at Tulane University Heady traveled to Paris and Venice to study art. She has also been an active art department member in various capacities for New Orleans bourgeoning film industry since 2008.
